SE's Adam Gaubert tunes in from Spain

Hi, my name is Adam Gaubert and I’ve been training with Stefan Rothe at Source Endurance for the past 9 months to help me with my road racing. Stefan is a great coach, enthusiastic and attentive, checks in often, and also gives me some brutal workouts. This summer, I have been lucky enough to train in Europe – to beat the Texas heat, enjoy the bike friendly culture, and also see how I would stack up coming from racing in the US.

I first went to my homeland in the UK – needless to say, training rides were harrowing since most 2-way roads would barely qualify as a one-way street in the US. TT’s seem to be more popular, (and perhaps safer) usually beginning with the first week at 25 miles followed the next week by 50, 75 and finally 100 miles. I did a several club rides where riders would use the many roundabouts to attack each other. Unfortunately I didn’t see British champions David Millar or Mark Cavendish, but I did get to go into the famed Manchester Velodrome where Chris Boardman’s 1-hour world record was set.

After a week of 55 degree rain in June, I had no patriotism left, and fled for warm Spain to the island of Ibiza in the Mediterranean sea. Between the gorgeous riding, gorgeous beaches and gorgeous girls, I’ve been much happier. There isn’t any racing here though, so I’m just building strength and speed until I can hop across to the mainland in Spain. There I have a Texan friend I can stay with who races all over the country on a Spanish U23 team. Hopefully by then I will be ready for some windy and hilly racing.

Adios,

Adam
