Hard Times and Hard Training

Posted 8 months ago by Derek Yorek — training

Hello everyone! Well…it’s been a hectic last two weeks. I was just starting to get fit again when I found out that my team, 3 stories racing was not going to happen. That kind of hurt, as that was a big part of my financial help for traveling and for things like food and gas. But all things happen for a reason, and I’m sure there is another door being opened somewhere that is even a better deal.

Once this happened, I just put all of my focus into my training, and what training it has been. Though my swimming has taken a hit due to a shoulder injury, my cycling and running are going through the roof. It’s very exciting for me to see my riding coming around with US Duathlon Nationals just 6 weeks away.

I will be racing the Fayatteville Stage race this weekend and that will be a lot of fun for me. The race provides a competition that is challenging while being a great training aid for the upcoming months. I am really excited for a race for the first time in a very long time. It will be a great time!

It just goes to show that when things aren’t looking good in other parts of your life, there is always a road there waiting for you to wash all of your worries away. Thank God for my fitness and health, because sometimes it’s all I’ve got.

Have a good one,

Yorek
