Coming Back to Life
Last weekend at the beautiful lake front city of Lago Vista I had I little run in with a rather large Doe. I hit the deer at the bottom of the steepest fastest downhill on the course. Pretty unlucky all around if you ask me. What makes the story even more unlucky, as far as I know there were only two people all weekend to have deer encounters, my good friend Andrew and I. Andrew hit a deer on the Friday evening before the race. He was out on his own pre-riding the course getting a jump on the competition like we instructed him. (Just Kidding about the last part) He hit the deer about a quarter mile further down the course from my accident, for those of you who know the course. He slid head first straight into a decorative boulder on the golf course next to the road. Thanks Golf course designers the course looks great. After a pricey ambulance ride and a nice 5 hour stint in the hospital Andrew was released with a 2008 leg brace and silver matte finished custom fitting crutches. All I got from my 5 hour visit to the hospital was some bandages, gauze, and a wheel chair ride out to the car cause I could not walk myself due to my slipped discs. Its really not the best time to take a break off the bike considering some good fun training racing time coming up. On the other hand I am very thankful that its not prime time season when I really want to be riding well. Hopefully this was my annual crash and I am good for the rest of the season. The first couple of days were absolutely terrible I could barely function getting out of bed, and to do anything was an ordeal, and to top it off I got some kind of bronchial infection. So not only did I have to change bandages I also had to take all kinds of meds for my pain and illness. I am starting to get better now, my skin is growing back, my body is starting not to hurt anymore, I can cough without crying because my back hurts so bad, and I can get out of bed grandpa speed now. Thank you everyone, I really appreciate all the calls and condolences, it really did help my speedy recovery. I will be back racing as soon as I get some time on the bike. Good luck to everyone at Fayetteville!
