Mas O Menos 100k

My new Gary Fisher Superfly is pretty rippin’. I got to ride it a couple of days in the desert this last weekend and boy oh boy did it impress me! If only it had a better motor.

My race went pretty well, other than the fact that I continue to make the same mistake and cramp up every year. But, it was still a lot of fun. I had a good start and when the race blew apart somewhat I settled into a decent pace and kept my pal Wink(Nathan Winklemann) in sight. He was riding like a man on a mission though. Going up the climb on the second lap my body decided it hated me. I cramped so bad I couldn’t get off the bike without basically screaming. I guess you loss a little bit of electrolytes when you are bike racing. Up until then I was running 8th or 9th and about a minute behind Wink. Then I got passed by 3 guys going up the climb and nursed it on in to the finish. I can’t be too bummed though. Two years ago I won the race in my 19-29 expert class with a time of 5 hrs on the same course. This year, I turned out a 4:20 so I figure a 40 minute increase in two years isn’t too bad. Plus if I wouldn’t have been so dumb I probably could have finished within 8-10 minutes of the leaders. I am definately still sore now 3 days after but today is a lot better than Sunday was.

Oh and on Saturday I ate an entire 16” pizza as dared by Nat Ross. I almost didn’t get it all down. But I had to reflect on something I said at the beginning of the day. I am not quiting a race this year unless forced to (i.e. major mechanical, injury). MY NEW YEARS RESOLUTION. So I applied that to my eating as well.

That is all, next up is Bar-H north of Dallas. Since I start some good LT work this week maybe this race won’t seem so fast out of the box.
