4 month dress rehearsal wrap

I have read with envy that the multi-sport SE athletes and runners are already snagging results in ‘08. I have also longed for a CX result to call my own despite not having entered a single ‘cross race this season. Finally my vicarious competitions end this Saturday starting with the Tour of New Braunfels. I’ve done this event both years that I have lived in TX and it has always felt familiar to me. Back in NC the omnium format was much more common. I always liked the concept of time trials being the wimpy stepchild to road races and crits. Despite my underwhelming time trialing abilities it is unfortunate that this year’s edition of the race will forgo the TT for lack of a reliable, logistically sound venue. No worries though, I can receive my pre-Fayetteville time trialing wakeup call on a rainy Sunday morning with Coach Wenger if necessary (probably skip the crashing part of our only previous ride of that sort).

I am looking forward to a season unlike those preceding it. Last year I had the awkward predicament of returning a team bike a full 45 days before receiving my next team bike. I made due with a derelict cyclocross frame, a handful of Dirt Derbies and lots of rollers. I was also definitely not on the Source-e program. This year I have done fewer racing simulations (training races, large group rides) than ever before. I have focused on Derick’s workouts and being ridden into the ground by some riders with engines a whole lot bigger than my own. I go into the coming weekends seeking and surely finding the answer to how well i have prepared. I hope that search leads me somewhere near the podium.
