One crazy weekend

It has taken an entire week to recover from the weekend of racing that I put in on the weekend of the 10th and 11th.  First, the SkirtChaser 5k was on Saturday.  It is a race put on by Nicole DeBoom's new company, Skirtsports.  They design fitness wear for the ladies and one of their products is the fitness skirt.  Obviously, haha.  Well what they do is get all of the female racers and let them start 3 minutes before the men.  Then the men have to "chase the skirts".  It was a wonderful race and just a really great time.  What made it better was that they gave $500 to the overall winner.  And I won!  I had to run down Desiree Ficker (wow, big crush, she's awesome!) for the win and it was no easy task.

The next morning was the EAS 10 Miler Run for the Water.  Gilbert's Gazelles put this race on to benefit a charity in Burundi.  Gilbert is a great man working for an incredible cause.  I showed up to the race extremely late and decided last minute to hop in and just run it as a long run.  Well, that did not work out as I went through the first mile in 5:08 with the leaders.  I thought to myself, "well...you've done it now Yorek."  I spent the next 8 miles running with/chasing Bernard Manirakiza.  He just so happens to be a 7-time NCAA DII National Champion when he went to Abilene Christian University.  At mile 9, hurting beyond belief, I was able to muster up one final surge and just got lucky that Bernard could not cover it.

Two races, two wins, and one extremely sore body.  Though it was fun to win a couple times over the weekend, I do not recommend doing those types of things often.  My training has suffered because of it and I am having some trouble getting back into the swing of things.

It is time to really focus on my TRIathlon training.  Swimming will be my main focus area over the course of the next few months and I need to remain motivated to get in to that pool.  So...if you see me and I smell horribly of chlorine, that's a good thing!  ;)
