Rockin Hill
Today was the Rocky Hill mountain bike race in Smithville TX. It was the final race of the 2007 TMBRA fall series. My first mountain bike race in seven months, and the first time on my mountain bike in five months. I was just out there for a good workout so I was not expecting a steller performance from myself. Everything went pretty smooth from getting breakfast, driving there, and getting dressed and registered. Everything seems to fall into place alot better when your not stressed out about the race in hand. The start was pretty fast, but not out of control. By the time we crested the first couple climbs there was a little lead group of Bryan Fawley, Andrew Dahlheim, Tristan Uhl, and myself; all my pretty close buddies. I wasn't sure how it was going to go down considering Andrew and I focused all year on the road and both Bryan and Tristan on the dirt. I figured Andrew and I had absolutely no chance, but we were all riding pretty well together. We all seemed to be riding pretty comfortable. About half way through the second lap Fawley put in one of many attacks on all of us on a jeep road section. Tristan tried to jump hard on his wheel, but ended up wandering a little too deep in the pain cave trying to hold his wheel, while Andrew and I closed the gap steadily. So now it's just the three of us BF, AD and me. Fawley being the season Vet that he is started to pull some shady mountain bike tricks to hold us off, but AD and I answered back pretty well. The trio all stayed together until the final mile of the race, when Fawley slipped up the trail slightly. We were all pretty fried from the hard hot day so the three of us were pretty evenly gapped between each other about five seconds apart. The final results: BF gold, AD silver and myself bronze, all about 10 seconds apart. Overall it was a good day, the trail was in great shape, and Rocky Hill always has a great venue and puts on a great race.
